Nucleoside

A nitrogenous base bound to a sugar, usually ribose or deoxyribose.  Nucleoside*s are the precursors of nucleotides*, the building blocks of DNA* and RNA.  

Nucleotides are synthesized from nucleosides by the addition of one or more phosphates to the number 5 carbon of the sugar.
